A happy staff is more productive,  according to a recent <a title=\"Happy people really do work harder\" href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/science\/2010\/jul\/11\/happy-workers-are-more-productive\" target=\"_blank\">study<\/a> conducted by the Warwick Business School in  the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe find that human happiness has large and positive causal effects  on productivity,\u201d said Andrew Oswald, a professor of economics at <a title=\"Warwick Business School\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Warwick_Business_School\" target=\"_blank\">Warwick Business School<\/a> and a leading authority on  the relationship between economics and mental health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf happiness in the workplace brings increased returns to  productivity, then human resource departments, business managers and the  architects of promotion policies will want to consider the  implications,\u201d the research concluded.<\/p>\n<p>I was a witness to an act of employee recognition this week when I  accompanied the staff of <a title=\"Bogota Latin Bistro\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bogotabistro.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Bogota  Latin Bistro<\/a> on a trip to Great Adventure. The owners of the Park  Slope bistro, Farid Ali Lancheros and George Constantinou Fernandes,  rewarded their hard working staff with an all-paid, full-day trip to the  amusement park on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>At a time when companies are scaling back on perks and special events  recognizing excellent work, Farid and George decided to close the  restaurant\u2019s door for the second year in a row. Employees and their  family and friends were treated to exciting trip, complete with food and  drink, and thanked publicly for another year of productive work.<\/p>\n<p>Many businesses can take a lead from the owners of <a title=\"Bogota  Bistro Social Media\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bogotabistro.com\/RestaurantSocialMedia.html\" target=\"_blank\">Bogota Latin Bistro &amp; Mojito Bar<\/a>, which has  become Brooklyn\u2019s premier Latin restaurant.
