A few months ago I created a business blog to market volunteer and professional communication services. I’ve enjoyed putting together a virtual place to record my education and past and present work experience. I recently created an assignments page to represent current projects. It’s also a great way to promote the organizations. My business blog at the present time serves two purposes: it’s an online vehicle to market volunteer and professional communication services, and an Internet résumé prospective full-time employers can review.

New iPhone Prices Are Not For Everyone

I have been holding out on upgrading my Sony Ericsson flip phone until the next iPhone update. This Monday Apple announced the new iPhone 3GS priced at $199 for the 16GB version and $299 for the 32GB version. It also dropped the price of the older iPhone 3G 8G version to $99. However there’s a big catch: The new prices are only good for new and upgrade-eligible AT&T customers. So if someone presently has an iPhone 3G and wants to get the new 3GS, he/she will have to pay a ridicules $599 for the 16GB version or $699 for the 32GB phone.

iPhone fans are upset with Apple and its current contract with AT&T. Last year, when the 3G iPhone came out, existing customers were able to upgrade and pay the new price. This year existing iPhone customers will have to wait until they’re eligible for an iPhone upgrade, or shell out hundreds of dollars.

I was told by Scott, an AT&T representative, that I will have to wait until September to be eligible for the $199 price for the new iPhone GS or pay $499 now for the new phone. Scott recommended I wait until September. Gee, thanks Scott.

I guess I’ll hold out for another 90 days.

Marketing Skills While Defining a Career Change

Last week I lost my job. While venturing out into the world of the unemployed, I decided to market my skills directly as a freelancer and consultant. I aim to continue the full-time job search, but with millions of people losing their jobs now may be the perfect time to work for myself.

I am a writer by nature who loves to tell a good story. I’ve decided to combine my media and communication expertise into my own business venture. I hope to take time defining a career change and carefully reviewing future full-time employment steps. In the meantime I believe this transition is an opportunity in disguise. It’s a time to re-invent myself and clarify what I want to do with the rest of my working career.

New Paltz, NY – My Second Hometown

Yesterday afternoon I headed to the town of my alma mater, New Paltz, NY. Every time I visit New Paltz I am filled with great memories of my college experience. Born and raised in New York City, I left the Bronx after high school to attend SUNY New Paltz. The college town is just 90 minutes from New York City, but for me it was an entire world away. For the first time I was surrounded by mountains and trees and took in cleaner air and starry nights. The historic quaint village is located in the beautiful Hudson Valley.

New Paltz has trendy shops and great bars and restaurants. The area has some fine wineries and is known for apple picking in the spring and pumpkin picking in the fall. New Paltz is also home to Huguenot Street, “the nation’s oldest street with its original houses.” If you want to get away from the crazy city for a relaxing day upstate, consider visiting New Paltz. I am sure you will find the little village of New Paltz quite appealing.

After some research on blogs I have decided to name my blog “Velez’s View.” The link will remain http://philvelez.blogspot.com. If you have a link to my blog from your blog/site please edit the name when you have a moment. The update is not really necessary since your link will direct readers to the newly named blog.

The blog universe seems infinite and there is a lot to learn, but I will tackle the enormous learning curve that same way I manage the rest of my life: one day at a time. Feel free to comment on the name if you wish. If you can think of a catchier name feel free to make a suggestion.
